IOT package/Parcel Tracking Device

Problem Statement:

In the current world e-commerce is fast growing business however so many frauds are happening in this sector due to poor secure packages and non-real time package location tracking and delivery proof. My idea will resolve this problem with minimal reusable hardware and efforts.

Solution:

This idea can resolve the above problem by enabling digital security and real time tracking mechanism to the parcel.

How it works:

First we need to add small device (as shown in below figure) to the parcel (preferably on top). While preparing the parcel e-commerce operator will transfer the orderID and the Delivery OTP (is dynamically generated) to the device by the operator and at the same time the same delivery OTP will be sent to the customer (who purchased the item), So no one knows the delivery OTP except the device and the customer. Now the operator ties/attach the box with the digital IOT device which includes small keypad and small display to enter the DOTP at the time of deliver the item. The digital IOT device is tightly coupled and controlled by the chip which is embedded in the device.

Once delivery boy come to us with the parcel and then the customer need to enter the DOTP which is received earlier then the device will authenticate the entered DOTP and if successful the tags/ties will release automatically from the box. Once tags/ties are released the ‘Delivered Successfully’ message will be displayed on the screen and this message remains display until and unless operator resets the chip also SMS will be sent to the buyer stating that the item is delivered successfully with the specific location name as well as the same message will be recorded in the operator database for future reference. This device also capable to work with real-time GPS so operators can track these items on their monitor on real-time without contacting courier partners. The delivery boy can take the digital tag/device along with them and they can handover to the operator. The operator can use these IOT devices N numbers of times for different parcels by resetting the device.

In case if one of the tags are removed or cut forcefully without entering the valid DOTP then ‘UNDELIVERED/TEMPERED’ message will be displayed on the screen. This message remains display until and unless operator resets the chip. So operators can easily find it out whether the order is delivered to the right person or tempered in between.


Second Method:

All the above points are remain same in this method except the following. The device also consists of small motors. Once packaging tags are inserted in the device slots, the device will automatically tightened the tags and once operator set that as final the device will check the tension of the tags periodically. If the tags are cut or removed forcefully in between and if the device detects any changes in the tags pressure and tension then the device automatically displays the message like ‘Package Tempered’ on the screen and this will remain same until and unless operator resets the device. The customer cannot enter the DPIN once the message is displayed as ‘Package Tempered’.
This device can be fitted with RFID, So that operators can read and write the order id to track the parcel at offices and the same order id can be displayed on the screen.

 Advantages:

1.       This device can be used for any container but preferably for valuable items
2.       This device can be reusable multiple times by resetting the device
3.       The orderID and the Delivery OTP (is dynamically generated) will be transferred to the device by the operator and at the same time the same delivery OTP will be sent to the customer. So no one knows the delivery OTP except the device and the customer.
4.       User can enter the OTP on this device itself by using mini keypad on the device
5.       Upon entering the successful DOTP the device will automatically unlcock the bindings/tags of the order
6.       If any tags are removed forcefully then the device will automatically display a message as ‘Tempered’ on the screen
7.       No one can open unlock this device without DOTP
8.       Device display will show whether the order is delivered successfully or Tempered
9.       Delivery persons should handover this item and need to submit at office so that operators will know whether the item is delivered to right person or not.
10.   Real time tracking the order through GPS
11.   Once the order is delivered the delivery status will be recorded in the operators database
12.   This device can be rechargeable with solar power.
13.   No one can swichoff the device except by the special device which can interact with this device
14.   If device is broken or purposefully damaged by anyone then the notification can send to the operator along with the geographical location of the device
15.   Once the delivery is successful or Tempered the message will be sent to the operator along with the location with geo tag.
